Arch Problems

Arch Problems (or Plantar faciitis) is a condition where the band of fibre running from the heel bone to the toe is inflamed. Heel pain sensation is experienced when walking and continuous exertion can cause repetitive strain on the muscles that insert around the foot. Responsible for around 15% of all foot complaints (particularly prevalent amongst runners).

Treatment:

As the most common treatment involves the use of prescriptive orthotics we offer to relieve the pressure on the plantar fascia and spread out the pressure on the plantar surface of the foot.

Anti-inflammatory creams and tablets such as Ibuprofen can be used to reduce swelling.

Podiatrists may use corticosteroid injections to ease the pain in the heel – this can be painful.

A rigid splint is sometimes recommended to be worn at 90 degrees during sleep. This prevents the muscles from tightening and reduces the strain on the plantar fascia. This treatment can last up to 5 weeks.
